Tea Ceremony Information
Cha Dao (The Way of Tea) is an ancient meditative practice and ritual which offers us space to slow down and connect deeply to Nature and ourselves.
Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world second only to water. In Tea Ceremony however, we don’t drink Tea as a beverage but instead sit with Her as plant medicine, in ceremony.
In these ceremonies we work with Tea – Camellia Sinensis. In Chinese medicine Tea was used as a shen tonic – shen translates as spirit, soul or heart. Therefore, when we drink tea in ceremony She is medicine for the spirit/ soul and a heart tonic.
When we sit for tea in ceremony we come together in silence to receive and connect to Tea as a plant medicine. It is an opportunity to slow down and cultivate awareness. A Tea sitting can last 1 – 1.5 hours and there will be a time at the end for reflections or questions.
Every ceremony is unique.
We will be seated on the floor – soft mats and cushions are available but please feel free to bring your own meditation cushions or anything that allows you to sit comfortably – you are not required to remain completely still for the entire ceremony. Chairs can be provided on request.
Dress in clothes that allow you to sit comfortably and be warm.
Please do not arrive too early as there is a certain amount of preparation involved to make the space ready for you, but please do not arrive late. 10 mins before the start of the ceremony is ideal. Please allow sufficient time to get to the space and find it. LATECOMERS WILL NOT BE ADMITTED.
